Westhaven Properties and Houses for Sale
Westhaven is an active community just South of Trinidad, Patrick's Point, Big Lagoon and Orick, but Westhaven residents share the same school, same cultural and local events as Trinidad.
Westhaven, CA is a small town in the greater Trinidad area. Other nearby towns are:: Orick, Big Lagoon and Patricks Point. Westhaven is on a separate (but equally strict) water district than Trinidad. Trinidad is on the ocean side of Highway 101 and Westhaven is (primarily) on the east side of 101 (with a few exceptions). There are still plenty of properties with excellent ocean views here, so don't worry if that's the tipping point for you.
Types of Homes and Properties in Westhaven
Westhaven has a wide variety of real estate for you to consider. The housing market here is full of everything from cabins and cottages tucked away in the redwoods (which grow here prolifically in Westhaven), to modest single family homes, modern homes, small farms and rustic living. However for some people moving to town, it just makes sense to get the best on the market, and Westhaven can occasionally come up with some immaculate ocean fronting homes or homes with great ocean view, even mini-estates with land. If you do buy a home on the bluffs overlooking the ocean, you’ll want to hire a geologist, as the land is slowly moving and slope retreat is a real concern for home buyers. Westhaven has lots of little communities that spring off both North Westhaven Drive and South Westhaven Drive and down on the beach, Scenic Drive has its own beach community. It is a highly attractive area for those who love the ocean and beaches.. It shares access to at least a dozen beaches along the Pacific Ocean and Trinidad Bay just within the two towns, all just a short walk or drive away. There is a list of beaches, local festivals and restaurants at the bottom of this article.
As for purchasing houses on the bay or the ocean, prices of course are on the high-end of the real estate market as oceanfront an ocean view properties are some of the most expensive pieces of real estate you can buy. In Westhaven the prices of houses skyrocket when you throw in a slice of Humboldt's North Coast. . The market can have a lot of ocean properties on it at times (less than 10) but its more typical to see 2 or 3, but it can also dry up and stay that way for months. The variety of homes is varied, some incredible homes by the ocean and a fair share more than that overlooking the ocean. That said, this is all still some of the most affordable coastal properties left in America or even California.
Westhaven Relative Location to Other Humboldt Towns
Westhaven is 10 minutes away from McKinleyville, for bulk shopping and the town also provides some economy and a small job market. It is a decent sized town for Humboldt County. It has good prices and variety for shopping and incidentally is home to Humboldt County's only commercial airport and flights to San Francisco and a few other destinations. All benefits to home buyers concerned about resale value. We don’t want to sell Trinidad short however, because for a small town, they have a good grocery store with fair prices and quality food. Between Westhaven and Trinidad there are two (debatably three) fine dining restaurants and close to ten total restaurants. Trinidad even has a casino in the city limits. The pretty open secret here is there is only a very thin line separating the two towns in terms of amenities, schools, shopping, etc., but there does seem to be a price difference in housing market with Trinidad being more well known and expensive. It also primarily sits on the sea-side, while a lot of Westhaven has to go thru the underpass to get to the ocean. The towns support each other’s local festivals and businesses. People from out of town are unlikely to know when the are leaving one town and entering the other.
